Get To Know The Earth Leakage Protection System For Electric Water Heater

It is said that 'electricity' and 'water' do not sound like they belong together. That means there must be a way to help these two things work together safely. Just like a good water heater or hot water heater, besides having to install a ground wire to prevent danger from electricity flowing into you, it must also have a system to prevent electrical leakage - electric shock. To cut off the power immediately when there is a leak or electric shock, further enhancing safety in use. Water heaters or general water heaters are equipped with built-in electrical leakage and electric shock protection devices. They can be divided into 2 types. How are each type different? Let's come and see!

Types of equipment to prevent electrical leakage in water heaters

  • ELCB or ELB (Electronic Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) : Electrical leakage-electric shock breaker installed in the water heater-hot water. This will cut off power from the system within a fraction of a second when there is a leak. It works like a circuit breaker. The difference is that there is an additional TEST button so that you can press this button at least once a month for safety and to check that the power cut-off system is still working properly or not.
  • ELSD, EELS or ESD (Electronic Leakage Safety Device) : An electronic circuit board installed in the water heater - hot water. Cuts electricity faster than the ELCB system, able to cut off immediately even if there is a leakage of only 10mA within 0.01 seconds. And most importantly, there is a TEST button for you to press at least once for safety and to ensure that the power cut-off system is still working well.
You already know that there are two types of electrical leakage protection systems in water heaters: ELCBs are circuit breakers that automatically cut off and connect electricity, while ELSDs are electronic circuit boards. The latter is a newer technology. It is designed so that the circuit board is part of the machine and can cut off electrical leakage faster.

But some water heaters, some brands, have both types installed in the unit for double safety. If you ask which type is better or which type should you choose? We would like to summarize it in an easy to understand way to be a part of your decision making. Even though the water heater already comes with a device to prevent electrical leakage and electric shock in the unit. We should not neglect the installation of ground wires and always check the electrical equipment that we spend money on. Are there standard electrical shock protection circuit breakers installed? And you should press the TEST and RESET buttons at least once a month to ensure that the breaker is working normally or not while there is no electricity coming in.
